Qiandao Lake is a man-made lake located in Chun’an County, China, where archeologists have discovered in 2001 ruins of an underwater city. The city is at a depth of 26-40 meters and was named “Lion City”. There would have been 290,000 people living in this city during more than 1300 years.
Haunted Play House is Torafu Architects’ creative exhibit designed especially for children to touch art while frolicking in and around the space. Featured in one of the galleries at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, the architectural installation—a giant, white cube set in the center with paintings hanging on its exterior walls—is built like a gallery space with components that resemble quirky and spooky elements found in a haunted funhouse.
New Orleans Pharmacy Museum
The French Quarter is full of people on the hunt for a hangover cure. And those who stumble upon the wonderfully offbeat New Orleans Pharmacy Museum (514 Chartres St., www.pharmacymuseum.org) after viewing the museum’s wares — thank their lucky stars that remedies have improved over the years.
The museum of medical artifacts, housed in an old 1823 apothecary shop that was once owned by the first licensed pharmacist in America, features potions, pills, contraptions and “cures” dating to the early 19th century.
